My Music Reflection : 23 April 2009

Today we did practice for 15 minutes and all the groups performed in front of the class. We practiced pretty well and my group did it very well. We performed fly me to the moon in front of the class, and I think it was quite good compared to the other groups. I think my group was solid enough and compact because each other were supporting the other through the music as we play.

Today the teacher told us to make this blog, the reflection. He also told us to create a google account. We need to make the daily reflection and type it in the blog. During practical, we were divided into our own groups and practiced the Fly me to the moon. It was fun.

Today I had the individual music performance assessment and the remedial assessment for the Jazz quiz. I think I did quite well with few mistakes, next time I would be more prepared to be better in the assessment.

Today we practiced the individual fly me to the moon performance with our own instrument group. We practiced almost the whole day and some students did the assessment at that day, which is the piano group and two violin students.

Today I learned about the Jazz music report. I also learned how I should be responsible by showing my parents my marks. I need to be more attentive in order to fully understand what is being taught in class.

Today we received the scores for our music written assessment that we have done in term 3. I got a very bad score, it was lower than 50%. The teacher asked us to give our marks to our parents, and the due date for the signature is 2 April 2009. Having to see this, I know now that I need to study harder for future assessments.

This term had been good, we studied about Jazz music as well as the songs, such as Fly me to the moon and autumn leaves. We sang both and I think they're quite good to be called Jazz music. Overall, I think I did quite good this term despite the bad marks. I did good in the Jazz song and Jazz individual report, I have learned quite a few lessons this term.

Today is the due date for the Java Jazz individual report, and I submitted it on time. We got some more information about the group performance for term 4. Today was good, even though we learned a few, because we got a 'happy holiday everyone!' from our teachers.

Today, the teacher told us about the grouping for the group Jazz performance. My group members are Renatasya, Jason, Mahardika, and Michelle. I didn't learn anything else today, it was only ideas about how the group assessment would be. We need to perform Fly me to the moon as a group.

Today we got briefing about the Java Jazz music excursion; when to come, where to gather, where to watch, etc. We also got several information about what we should do in the Java Jazz music individual report. We need to see at least three performances and comment about the music; what feeling we got, what was the most interesting part, etc.

Today I learned more about the things that I will be seeing in Java Jazz, as well as a reminder that I need to submit the slip next day. I think the Java Jazz will be interesting because there are several known performers, and moreover, Binus Jazz Society will perform, so I think it'll be fun.

Today I sang the song 'Fly me to the moon' in front of the class as my singing assessment. I always have stage fright, or a fright that occurs when we have to perform in front of audiences. This is one part of music exercise, controlling and mastering stage fright, because that's what music is all about : self confidence in order to be fully appreciated.

Today we continued to practice the two songs and decide which one we would like to have for our singing assessment. I chose Fly me to the moon because I think it is easier to sing than autumn leaves. The practice was good and interesting because we get to see several students practicing in front of the class.

Today I did my written test about Jazz music and scales. Today is also the due date for the individual report. I submit it on time but did not bind it properly, which will cause in deduction of mark. I can't really do the written test, and I would probably get bad grades, rather. Next time I am going to study harder in order to completely understand the topic and do well in tests.

Today we learned more about the Jazz music and its connection to our future report. Also, we watched some Jazz music videos like chic corea. We watched autumn leaves, and other interesting jazz songs. I don't really enjoy jazz music, but somehow I am able to nurture it and understand the meaning and message, as well as the emotion of the musicians.

Today we got more information regarding the individual report. We need to report about Jazz and its effect to the world, as well as the musicians and instruments, etc. We also made some notes about how we are going to make our individual report ( the tables ). Aside from that, I don't think we learned anything specific today.

Today I learned two new songs ( Jazz songs ) which are : Autumn Leaves, and Fly me to the moon. The whole class sang both of them and I found fly me to the moon more interesting than autumn leaves, even though I like the rhythm for autumn leaves better. I found several difficulties in learning this, and one of them is singing in front of the class.

Today we made plans for our individual Jazz report. We made it in tables on a sheet of paper. We divide several parts and organize them properly so that we could make the report properly in the future. It was really fun because we get to brainstorm and think about things that are going to be added in the report.

Again today, I learn about the things that I will be learning this semester, as well as the assessment criterias and projects. I know now that I will need to sing, report, reflect, understand, comprehend, and do performance as a group this semester. It is a challenge for me and I hope by knowing this, it will give me better grades in the future.

Today we were assessed on the hand signs. It was actually rather hard because we need to make random signs for random notes that was played by the teacher. It was a challenge because it is somehow hard and needs a lot of concentration while doing.

Today I learnt about some major scales such as the Cmajor7, Gmajor7, etc. I don't quite understand though, even though I have studied it for two years. Even so, I need to continue to learn, because that's what learning is all about, challenge. I am going to try my best in order to achieve my goals this semester.

Today we learned about the hand signs and more to the introduction of the topics that we are going to learn this semester. The hand signs were difficult at first, but I was able to master it in a few minutes, with small mistakes.

Today I learnt about what I would learn in semester 2. It is about Jazz and how it affects the world. The instrument that I play, violin, somehow has a significance to it. That's why I will learn properly and improve my knowledge further regarding Jazz music as a genre.
